Common Failure Modes

3D printers are high-maintenance machines. Clogged hotends, worn belts, and bed adhesion issues are constant battles, requiring the user to become comfortable with tinkering and DIY repair.

Check and Tighten Belts

Timing belts stretch over time. Loose belts result in backlash, ringing artifacts, and inaccurate print dimensions.

Clean and Lubricate Rods

Dust and degraded grease on the smooth rods or linear rails cause friction, leading to layer shifts and noisy operation. Keep them clean and lubricated.

Clean the Build Surface

Oils from fingerprints prevent filament from adhering to the bed, causing prints to warp or fail mid-print. Clean the surface thoroughly.

Replace the Nozzle

Brass nozzles wear down from the friction of filament, especially abrasive types like carbon fiber or wood. A worn nozzle causes poor extrusion and stringing.
