Troubleshooting
View all →Common Failure Modes
These are incredibly simple devices consisting of a fan and a filter. Fan motor bearings can wear out, causing squealing, but most units are disposed of when they break.
Maintenance
View all →Clean or replace the pre-filter
The pre-filter captures large particles like hair and dust before they reach the HEPA filter, extending its life. Vacuum the pre-filter with a brush attachment every 2-4 weeks. Washable pre-filters can be rinsed and dried. Non-washable pre-filters should be replaced every 3 months.
Replace HEPA filter
Replace the HEPA filter according to the manufacturer schedule, typically every 12 months for standard use. Homes with pets, smokers, or allergy sufferers may need replacement every 6-9 months. A saturated HEPA filter restricts airflow and can no longer capture fine particles effectively.
