Troubleshooting

Common Failure Modes

Glass cooktops are susceptible to impact damage and deep scratching. On gas models, continuous spark modules can fail, causing clicking without ignition.

Maintenance

Check gas connections and igniters

For gas cooktops, apply soapy water to supply line fittings annually and watch for bubbles indicating leaks. Clean burner ports with a pin to ensure even flame distribution.

Clean ceramic or glass surface weekly

Use a cooktop-specific cream cleaner and razor scraper for burnt-on food. Avoid abrasive pads that scratch glass. Regular cleaning prevents permanent staining and maintains heat transfer efficiency.

Clean cooktop surface after each use

For glass-ceramic cooktops, wait until the surface is warm but not hot and wipe with a ceramic cooktop cleaner and a non-abrasive pad. For gas cooktops, remove grates and clean the surface with warm soapy water. For induction, wipe with a damp cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners on glass surfaces.

Deep clean burner components

For gas cooktops, remove burner caps and clean the igniter electrodes with a dry toothbrush. Clear each burner port with a pin. For electric cooktops, inspect coil element connections or radiant element surfaces for damage. Ensure all components are completely dry before reassembling.
