Apply white lithium grease or silicone-based garage door lubricant to the chain or screw drive, door hinges, roller stems, and spring bearings twice a year. Do not use WD-40 as it is a solvent that removes existing lubrication. Proper lubrication reduces noise and extends the life of all moving components.
Place a 2x4 board flat on the ground under the door and close it. The door should reverse immediately upon contacting the board. Also test the photoelectric sensors by waving an object through the beam while the door is closing. It should reverse instantly. Federal law requires these safety features to function.
